The College Rating System

The May 1st deadline to accept your admission is less than a week away! While considering the pros and cons of each college, you may have come across conversations about the federal college rating system. Last year, the Obama administration suggested the use of a college rating system to help students decide which institution is the best choice for them.

The college rating system would evaluate colleges on how well they serve their students. The ratings would be based on factors such as graduation rates, tuition and fees pricing, scholarship availability, etc. Conversations between the president, the Department of Education and Congress are ongoing to discuss the benefits and the drawbacks of the rating system.

While this information will not be ready for those of you who must commit by next week, there are other resources available to help you make the right choice. For example, admitted students may still access the Shopping Sheet via their myUMBC account for financial aid purposes.

Remember, you can always contact our office if you have any questions or concerns regarding the financial aid and scholarship options at UMBC. To find your Financial Aid Counselor’s contact information, please visit: http://www.umbc.edu/financialaid/contact.html.
